Alpacas are among my favorite animals to photograph. Unlike what I am able to observe in other animals, even those as close to me a dogs and cats, I am able to see in alpacas a distinct individuality.

I see in these alpacas unique characters, much like those represented by muppets and cartoon animations. It seems to me that no two alpacas are alike. The potpourri of colors of their wool, is as varied as their heights and body shapes. Their amusing “hairdos” only add to their vivid facial expressions, which vary from the goofy to the serene to the curious to the, occasionally, irritated.

They seem to pose for me, as if they appreciate being photographed, or perhaps they are simply as intrigued by the photographer and camera as I am by them.
